BARNA Post Anaesthetic Care Clinical Competencies are near completion: adapted from ASPAN – these competencies will underpin UK post anaesthetic care practice in testing skills and theory. All body systems are reviewed and competencies broken down into specific criteria based around related anatomy and physiology. BARNA competencies derived from BARNA Standards in defining good practice in this critical speciality The first of these competencies - Airway Mangement will be available in draft format at the up coming BARNA conference on 6th June 2008. There will be the facility for pre-ordering these competencies at the BARNA conference stand.

Regional study days: to encourage members to hold local/regional study days: BARNA will support regional study days – this benefits the local hospital in drawing on the support and resources of BARNA.

Members of the BARNA executive board will attend these study days to support local initiatives across the UK

BARNA is planning a Northern conference/study day for the Autumn this year. If you have any information regarding suitable venues or would like to be involved in this exciting venture please email: Pat Smedley

BARNA Clinical Practice Forum provides an opportunity for open discussion on important developments in peri-anaesthetic practice

Audit: BARNA will set up audit on UK peri-anaesthesia practice: peri anaesthesia care is changing fast in UK and there is a real need to audit how practice is developing : BARNA will start off the audit process by auditing provision for anaesthetic + post anaesthetic care in UK. Future topics will certainly include an audit on use of unqualified personnel in post anaesthetic care

BARNA Constitution: This has been re-written and has been available to all members since the middle of March for you to read prior to conference. Members will vote on the new constitution at conference. All members have access to the Constitution via the BARNA web site BARNA Constitution
